Kanchenjunga 8586m

Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain of the world. It rises to 8586m above the sea level. It lies in the eastern part of Nepal in Latitude:27○ 44’09” and Longitude: 88○09’25’’.

Kanchenjunga means “Five Magnificent Snow Treasures” a reference to the five high peaks that rise from the surrounding glaciers. The five mountains from the southeast are South Peak (8491m), Central Peak (8478m), and Main Peak-8586m, in the westward, there are Yalung Kang and Khambachen.

We start trekking from Khandenba. The trekking to Kanchenjunga base camp is longer but again interesting equally and one of the most popular trekking destination of Nepal. We pass through inhabitant of Gurung, Chhetri community to Sherpa community. Life style of this area is completely different from other part of Nepal. Passing though dense forest watching beautiful mountains and colourful rhododendron flowers is another attraction of this trek.

Details

Location: India / Nepal
First ascent: May 25, 1955 by George Band and Joe Brown

Expedition:
 British
Summits/Deaths:
 284/43

Risk: Death Rate: 15.14%
Facts: It’s largest among 8000ers and the route to the summit is longest among 8000m mountains. It was considered to be the highest mountains till 1856. It is not that technical mountains but its height made climbers suffer on it. Kanchenjunga is not known like Everest, K2 or Cho Oyu so very few climbers try it but again very few only get success because it’s a giant mountain.

  Why price is expensive?

1. The expedition will be led by UIAGM/IFMGA certified guides who can give right decision at right time with right move.

2.    We are organizing Kanchenjunga in spring season which is key season for Everest. All good and experienced Sherpa prefer to go Everest because there they can earn more money and less work. But on Kanchenjunga, usually Sherpa get less money and more work because there comes very few climber and all rope fixing and carrying will be done by same Sherpa team. More money and less work on Everest (8848m) and more work and less money on Kanchenjunga (8586m) so it is important to give more money on Kanchenjunga for Sherpa.
3.    Kanchenjunga lies in eastern part of Nepal and all the preparation are done from central part of Nepal based in Kathmandu. This makes transportation cost very high, even higher than Everest area.
4.    The key problem of Kanchenjunga is porter. It is long trekking itself and also porters have to carry the load on Yalung glacier for 2days which makes cost even more expensive.
5.    All the route fixing equipment like rope, ice crew, snow picket have to be brought by single team if there is no other team as very few people try Kanchenjunga. Kanchenjunga need more fixing equipment than other 8000m peaks which increases cost on buying equipment and transportation
